Week 14: Gearing up for the Holidays!

This week was another busy one, but in a different way! I started the week by packing up the book fair from the previous week. The were planning to come pick it up Tuesday morning, but they were able to come by Monday afternoon! I was so glad I went ahead and packed it all up first thing Monday morning. The book fair is fun, but I was ready to get my space organized again. I also was able to put up some books that started to pile up that needed to be shelved!

Tuesday I was summoned to my first ever jury duty! So, I wasn't at school this day. It was not very exciting as I was never called back. I was able to sit quietly and read my book though!

We have a huge Thanksgiving lunch for our students and community members on Thursday, so we prepared for that. Parents, grandparents, and other family members come to enjoy lunch with their child. It is a fun day and an exciting way to get ready for all of the holiday activities. We use the library as a holding space for parents and family members as they call for lunch. I had to move tables and situate chairs in a way to provide enough space.

Friday, I had several read alouds and my 4th and 5th grade book club.

I see a group of 4th and 5th graders three times a week. 4th grade is reading "Dear Mr. Henshaw" by Beverly Cleary. 5th grade is reading "Hatchet" by Gary Paulsen.

The read aloud this week was "Turkey Trouble" and I used the Novel Effect app while reading. The kids LOVE the sounds that the app makes. This particular book was very fun using the app.

After the Thanksgiving lunch, I started prepping decorations for Christmas!

Week 3: September Read Aloud

This week I started my September Read Alouds! I sent out the attached newsletter to all teachers in my school along with a Google Calendar booking link. The classes really enjoyed the book "How I Became a Pirate". I used the Novel Effect App again, and the sounds with this particular book were so fun.  With the read aloud students created a treasure map, colored a parrot, or matched the sequence of events of the story.  I also had two technology lessons that I taught this week for 4th grade. I focused on being safe online and how to create a slideshow using Google Slides.

Week 7- Week 10: Combining weeks due to school closures!

Week 7: School closures due to Hurricane Helene  Week 8: This week was not as busy as I expected after coming back from being out all week. I did need to catch up on the Georgia Literacy Modules that are required from our county. I worked on that for a couple hours this week. I had several whole classes come in for book check out, but a lot of my teachers that had originally scheduled a read aloud and activity with me asked to cancel or reschedule because they had to catch up on work from last week. This is totally understandable, and I enjoy being able to be flexible with teachers and just trying to meet them where they are at in order to support them.  Week 9: Fall Break- School Closed all week Week 10: This week was fun! I had several read alouds that were rescheduled from the previous weeks. We read "Creepy Pair of Underwear" and did a sequence of events activity. The kids loved the story and really did a great job working on the activity.  Another really exciti...
