Week 13: Scholastic Book Fair!

This week was a big week! We had the Scholastic book fair. I love book fair week so much, and so do the kids! We run the book fair all week. Previous to starting the book fair I create a booking link through my Google Calendar (we are a Google Education Suite school) and teachers are able to easily sign up for a time slot that works best for them to bring their class in. This is a much more organized way of bringing classes in rather than just allowing students to shop whenever they want. I also reach out to the community via email and our social media page to ask for parent volunteers. I was able to have a parent volunteer each day of book fair week. They help the students shop, count their money, and just help manage all of the people in the library while I run the cash register. Our community is always willing to come help out with events at the school.

I did also still allow students to come in to return and check out books, so having extra hands in the library helped with that as well. I did not want to close down the library for book check out for an entire week.

This was a fun week, but very exhausting at the end of each day.

Week 3: September Read Aloud

This week I started my September Read Alouds! I sent out the attached newsletter to all teachers in my school along with a Google Calendar booking link. The classes really enjoyed the book "How I Became a Pirate". I used the Novel Effect App again, and the sounds with this particular book were so fun.  With the read aloud students created a treasure map, colored a parrot, or matched the sequence of events of the story.  I also had two technology lessons that I taught this week for 4th grade. I focused on being safe online and how to create a slideshow using Google Slides.

Week 7- Week 10: Combining weeks due to school closures!

Week 7: School closures due to Hurricane Helene  Week 8: This week was not as busy as I expected after coming back from being out all week. I did need to catch up on the Georgia Literacy Modules that are required from our county. I worked on that for a couple hours this week. I had several whole classes come in for book check out, but a lot of my teachers that had originally scheduled a read aloud and activity with me asked to cancel or reschedule because they had to catch up on work from last week. This is totally understandable, and I enjoy being able to be flexible with teachers and just trying to meet them where they are at in order to support them.  Week 9: Fall Break- School Closed all week Week 10: This week was fun! I had several read alouds that were rescheduled from the previous weeks. We read "Creepy Pair of Underwear" and did a sequence of events activity. The kids loved the story and really did a great job working on the activity.  Another really exciti...
