Week 12: F2f Reading Lesson & High school Library Visit

This week I spent some time in the high school media center. It was so fun to see how the library at a high school is so different than an elementary school library. One thing that I noticed is that book check in and out does not occur nearly as often. Students do utilize the space though. There were several students that are completing college courses working in the library. It is nice for them to have a quiet space to work on their online classes.

I helped the media specialist trouble shoot a video recording issue for a teacher. I also helped the media specialist take some pictures of a math lesson that a teacher requested.

At this particular high school there is a Pre-K class. The Pre-K class comes in to the library weekly for a read aloud and a craft. The Media Specialist let me read to them, and this was right up ally! It was so fun, and the kids were excited to have a guest reader.

I also taught my face to face reading lesson this week. I collaborated with a 4th grade teacher to develop this lesson. I read the book "I Color Myself Different" by Colin Kaepernick. Then students used their chromebooks (we are 1:1 technology school) to log in to Canva and create their own self portrait. They had a lot of fun looking up images, adding text, and using the drawing tool to create their portrait! I told them to focus on what makes them unique like Colin did in the story.

Example of a student's work.

Week 3: September Read Aloud

This week I started my September Read Alouds! I sent out the attached newsletter to all teachers in my school along with a Google Calendar booking link. The classes really enjoyed the book "How I Became a Pirate". I used the Novel Effect App again, and the sounds with this particular book were so fun.  With the read aloud students created a treasure map, colored a parrot, or matched the sequence of events of the story.  I also had two technology lessons that I taught this week for 4th grade. I focused on being safe online and how to create a slideshow using Google Slides.

Week 7- Week 10: Combining weeks due to school closures!

Week 7: School closures due to Hurricane Helene  Week 8: This week was not as busy as I expected after coming back from being out all week. I did need to catch up on the Georgia Literacy Modules that are required from our county. I worked on that for a couple hours this week. I had several whole classes come in for book check out, but a lot of my teachers that had originally scheduled a read aloud and activity with me asked to cancel or reschedule because they had to catch up on work from last week. This is totally understandable, and I enjoy being able to be flexible with teachers and just trying to meet them where they are at in order to support them.  Week 9: Fall Break- School Closed all week Week 10: This week was fun! I had several read alouds that were rescheduled from the previous weeks. We read "Creepy Pair of Underwear" and did a sequence of events activity. The kids loved the story and really did a great job working on the activity.  Another really exciti...
