Week 11: Halloween Week AND Red Ribbon Week!

Whew! This week has been very busy! Not only was it Halloween week in an elementary school, we also participated in dress up days for Red Ribbon Week. It was truly so much fun, but very busy!

The week began with an AI Coaching session that I am participating in through a county wide initiative. I am part of a cohort of teachers and leaders in our county that will ultimately be teaching and coaching teachers on the use of generative AI in schools. I am very excited about this, because I have really loved learning about AI.

I was also able to complete two of my librarian interviews this week through a zoom video call. I thought it was especially interesting hearing from a high school media specialist because her work day is so drastically different than mine. Her focus is definitely more so on teaching technology skills and research skills for students.

I also spent 4 hours at a middle school library this week. I helped the media specialist create a picture wall for her book club. I also helped her grade some group projects that she assigned for an enrichment group of students. I was also able to go check out the room where a different teacher does the morning announcements. I was curious about this because I do the morning announcements at my school, so I just wanted to see how they did it. They do their announcements live though, whereas I pre-record and edit on iMovie. However, it was interesting to see their set up! I also liked that their news show is 100% student led. The teacher simply just facilitates and helps as necessary.

The project that we worked on was in Canva and students had to create an infographic comparing a Greek Mythology character to another character from classic literature.

The green room and sound set up for the news show is much more involved than what I do! I simply have a green screen and a MacBook. I record on the MacBook and edit. Then I post the videos online for teachers to show in the morning. I loved this involved set up though because students are able to learn a lot about production and editing!

The media specialist wanted a spot on the wall here for her book club pictures, so I helped her do that really quickly!

The book fair truck arrived on 10/31! While this is an absolutely crazy day at an elementary school, I was still excited to see it arrive! We will set up next week and begin the fair on November 11th!

I don't normally wear a crown to school, but on this day I was dressed up as Glinda the Good witch! This is a picture of me reading "Creepy Pair of Underwear" to one of our Pre-K classes. They loved this book and giggled every time I said "underwear" of course!

These two images are from when I was enrolling and inventorying our new iPads for our Kindergarten classes. I received 22 new iPads! I had to get them ready to pass out to Kindergarten.

Week 3: September Read Aloud

This week I started my September Read Alouds! I sent out the attached newsletter to all teachers in my school along with a Google Calendar booking link. The classes really enjoyed the book "How I Became a Pirate". I used the Novel Effect App again, and the sounds with this particular book were so fun.  With the read aloud students created a treasure map, colored a parrot, or matched the sequence of events of the story.  I also had two technology lessons that I taught this week for 4th grade. I focused on being safe online and how to create a slideshow using Google Slides.

Week 7- Week 10: Combining weeks due to school closures!

Week 7: School closures due to Hurricane Helene  Week 8: This week was not as busy as I expected after coming back from being out all week. I did need to catch up on the Georgia Literacy Modules that are required from our county. I worked on that for a couple hours this week. I had several whole classes come in for book check out, but a lot of my teachers that had originally scheduled a read aloud and activity with me asked to cancel or reschedule because they had to catch up on work from last week. This is totally understandable, and I enjoy being able to be flexible with teachers and just trying to meet them where they are at in order to support them.  Week 9: Fall Break- School Closed all week Week 10: This week was fun! I had several read alouds that were rescheduled from the previous weeks. We read "Creepy Pair of Underwear" and did a sequence of events activity. The kids loved the story and really did a great job working on the activity.  Another really exciti...
